Darrell Payne first began dancing when he was offered a full scholarship to study dance at The Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera Academy of Musical Theater in his hometown of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He then went on to graduate from The Ailey School’s Professional Division where he had the privilege of performing works of choreographers Robert Battle, Francesca Harper, Milton Myers, Bradley Shelver, Andre Tyson, and Sharon Wong. Upon graduation from The Ailey School, Darrell performed as a soloist with Germaul Barnes’ Black Bones Project, which consisted of choreography of Bill T. Jones, Eleo Pomare, Leni Williams, and Germaul Barnes. Darrell has also attended The Stella Adler Studio of Acting and he is currently receiving private singing instruction from Liz Caplan Vocal Studios.
