Nick: Mid-20s to 30s, Male. A writer. Nigel’s older brother.. Seeking a great comedic actor who sings and dances very well. Sings to F#. Must Tap. William Shakespeare: Mid 20s-30s, Male. Over the top, cocky, a true rock star of his time. Seeking a great comedic actor that sings and dances very well. Strong rock belt to A. Must Tap. Nigel: Early 20s to 30s, Male. A writer. Nick’s younger brother. Seeking a great comedic actor that sings very well. Light, easy tenor to A. Thomas Nostradamus: deally 40s to 50s, Male. A soothsayer. Seeking a great comedic actor that sings and dances very well. Big belt to G#. Brother Jeremiah: Ideally 40s-50s, Male. A Puritan. The father of Portia. He despises Nick and Nigel. Seeking a great comedic actor that sings very well. Sings to G. Shylock/Lord Clapham: An older Jewish man. Nick and Nigel are in debt to himl. Seeking a great comedic actor. Clapham is a patron of the Bottoms. Extravagant. Bea: 20s-30s, Female. Nick’s wife. She loves Nick despite his past lack of success. Seeking a great comedic actress that sings very well. Portia: 20s-30s, Female. A quirky, pretty passionate and puritan woman. Seeking a great comedic actress that sings very well. Light soprano to F. Ministrel: 20s to 40s, Male. Must have tons of charisma and an amazing sense of comic timing. Will be part of the ensemble. Soaring pop tenor to C. Must tap dance very well.
Male Ensemble Dancers: 20s to 30s, Male. All ethnicities, strong tap dancers who sing very well. Must be comedic and inventive. Will portray various character parts throughout the show and will understudy principal roles. This is a tap heavy show, there are several consecutive tap numbers.
Female Ensemble Dancers: 20s to 30s, Female. All ethnicities, strong dancers who can tap very well and sing very well. Will portray various character parts throughout the show and will understudy principal roles.
An Equity Monitor will not be provided. The producer will run all aspects of audition.
Prepare 16-32 bars from a song appropriate to the style of the show. Please bring sheet music; an accompanist will be provided. Recorded music or a cappella audition will eliminate casting consideration. Bring headshot and résumé. Equity members must have a current equity ID card.
Salary: LORT Non-Rep Minimum - $969/wk. This is an Equity LORT B production, non-equity actors will be considered. Choreography by Kitty Skillman Hilsabeck.

SINGERS WHO DANCE
Casting Seussical, a fantastical, magical, musical extravaganza! Tony winners, Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty have lovingly brought to life all of our favorite Dr. Seuss characters, including Horton the Elephant, The Cat in the Hat, Gertrude McFuzz, lazy Mayzie and a little Who with a big imagination – Jojo. The colorful characters transport us from the Jungle of Nool to the Circus McGurkus to the invisible world of the Whos.
Rehearsals begin January 9, 2020. Performances run Friday thru Sunday, February 21 - March 8, 2020.
Please note: The roles of Horton the Elephant, Gertrude McFuzz and JoJo are cast. All other roles are open.
The Cat in the Hat: the essence of mischief, fun, and imagination. The Cat is the host and emcee of the evening, sometimes improvising with the audience, and a presence in almost every scene. Strong singer with strong movement skills, improvisation and comic ability. Tenor/Baritone (Top: F4, Bottom: F2). Sour Kangaroo: a citizen of the Jungle of Nool. She is the main antagonist and the cause of most of Horton’s trouble. A strong singer/actor with good comic ability and soulful singing. Soprano/Alto (Top: F5, Bottom: F#3). Mayzie Labird: a bird and a citizen of the Jungle of Nool. Strong singer/actor with strong movement skills. Soprano/Alto (Top: Eb5, Bottom: G3). Mr. Mayor a Who. The Mayor of Whoville and JoJo’s dad. Strong singer/actor. Tenor/Baritone. Mrs. Mayor: a Who. The Mayor’s wife and JoJo’s mom. Strong singer/actor. Alto/Soprano. General Gengus Khan Schmitz a Who.He is not mean, just misguided. He honestly thinks he is doing the right thing and is making the world a better place. Strong singer/actor with comic ability. Baritone. The Bird Girls: three sassy birds and citizens of the Jungle of Nool. A big presence throughout the evening. Must be able to sing harmony. Strong singers/dancers. The Wickersham Brothers: three monkey brothers and citizens of the Jungle of Nool. They're simply a lot like kids who tease, play pranks and get a kick out of making mischief. Strong singers/dancers. Acrobatic experience a plus.
Children's Ensemble: strong singers who dance or move very well to perform various roles including the young kangaroo, Thing 1 and Thing 2, Whoville children, Cindy Lou Who, Max, cadets and citizens of the Jungle of Nool.
Adult Ensemble: strong singers who dance or move very well to perform various roles including Yurtle the Turtle, the Grinch, Vlad Vladikoff, Whoville townspeople, Hunters, Circus folk, Hunches and citizens of the Jungle of Nool.
Prepare 16 bars of a song in the style of the show. An accompanist will be provided. Bring a headshot and resume. There is no pay. Equity and Non-Equity Actors Welcome. This production is being presented under the auspices of the Actors’ Equity Association Los Angeles Self-Produced Project Code.
