Direct bookings from demo reels?
Absolutely! They really happen. And, they happen right here! Recently, MSA Agency submitted a reel built by member Antonio Martinez for a principal role on a national Dove commercial. Bingo! A direct booking. No audition necessary. The same happened for members Amanda Mills, Emily Dann, and Rina Nouveau. We have a hunch these wins will keep on happening because effective reels are being developed and built on this site. Ready to fire up your own creative streak? Check ‘em out. They will inspire you.

After Ryan posted what she describes as a mini dance documentary, Grover was curious to know the details of how this video was made. Here is Ryan's response:
"My very good friend friend Ty Hunt helped me out with the video. It was my idea that I wanted to do an interview about myself in the area where I feel like is a second home to me. The tattoo shop I was in is my very very good, close friends who I've known for a very long time and helped them build their shop. Danny is the owner and my tattoo artist. Danny and his wife Kelly and their kids are family to me. My first home is the dance floor for sure but that tattoo studio is a home to me also. I wanted photos and a few dance shots. Wish there was more dance shots in it but I like the way it turned out. The music was my choice. Its what I listen to every day in the car. I love the Black Veil Brides, Asking Alexandria, Motionless in White, Bullet for my Valentine. GREAT bands and they make me feel good. The effects and the way to video was finally put together was all Ty. He is super creative and knows my style so we work well together."
Susan Toni’s journey to this page involved building at least 4 versions of her reel. Her description reveals the ‘friends’ who helped her along the way. Here is Susan's demo reel description:
The Reel Journey. I posted my first reel a couple months ago. The one thing I didn't do while creating my reel was comment on other member's going through the same process. Once I started doing that I saw all the different editing choices and dance styles I could incorporate into my own. Some members that influenced the changes I made are Dakota Montavon's kinetic energy and dynamic personality, Alex Sturrup's masterful editing skills, Cydny Pina's reminder to put myself front and center in my own reel, Emily Dann's quick replies and great suggestions for innovation, Jessie's warmth and positiveness, NaTonia Monet's rollerskates and complete overhaul of her reel, Alyssa Weldon's attention to detail and great swagger I saw at the workshop, Dayna Hasson's consistent presence on the website and keeping people connected, and Grover Dale's welcoming presence and desire to go deeper into the dancer to bring out a richer performance. Thanks guys!!

In addition to competing on ‘So You Think You Can Dance’....she assisted 3 different choreographers on the show. Here is Amy's final reel:

Within hours of getting feedback from a first reel, Dakota Montavon attracted a lot of praise with his edited version.
Motivated to try his hand at performing within a dramatic situation, Dakota developed the next video. Only days ago, he posted ‘Mirror’ and quickly won support from many iD2 regulars and A4D staffers. AMONG THE PAYOFFS: Good work can be noticed in surprising ways. ‘Mirror’ was posted on our Facebook page where it was watched and ‘liked’ by David Winters, a major film producer located in Bangkok. Congrats, Dakota!

After posting the 4th version of her reel, Alyssa Weldon found herself in ‘what-do I-do-next ’ mode. Her friend Emily Dann suggested a ‘creative’ adventure. Give another member freedom to play around with the footage. Feeling she had nothing to lose, Alyssa co-operated. Hours later, ‘editing wiz’ Alex Sturrup performed magic and delivered a few surprises…new song, new edits, new effects, new everything! Alyssa and Emily were blown away. When posted, the results attracted immediate attention. Here y’go.
By her 4th attempt, Kristine found the right 1:33 to represent her talents as a well-rounded dancer, performer, and aerialist.
Here’s the 2nd version of Alex Sturrup’s reel. His performance throughout ‘pops’ for several reasons. First, his editing instincts....for blending images with the music, is exceptional. We almost don’t notice what’s happening...the energy just keeps surging forward....the ride is irresistible. Heck, we barely notice that some of the footage is technically under par. Two, he doesn’t let us see his preparations and landings for turns, leaps, and gymnastics. He cuts ‘em out! Showing us just the flight is captivating. We’re glued and entertained at the same time. Three, he surprises our eyes with unexpected choices....slowing down mid-air flight of his body...or inserting period styles that take us back a couple of hundred years! And then there’s his considerable ‘talent.’ All of it re-enforced with Alex’s editing choices. Killer reel? You betcha!
Here’s Amy Dalessandro’s 3rd attempt at a reel that secured her a spot on this page.
